STILL IN DEVELOPMENT- SOME WORKING NOTES BELOW
Poor health, including excess weight, is a common side effect of taking neuroleptics and plagues many who are diagnosed with schizophrenia (Louis, 2013). Increasingly, as a more holistic approach gains wider traction, care givers are recognizing and advocating general good health as important for individuals diagnosed with schizophrenia. Sufficient exercise (any, running, walking, weights, dancing, yoga, qi gong), a good balanced, non toxic diet (organic, GMO free), enough sleep and relaxation, sun (at least for vitamin D) are important (Mercola, 2013) In a study with patients experiencing their first episode of psychosis, it was found that improving a patient's physical activity level may improve her functioning.
